VANL is delighted to announce details of a unique Hollywood-style VOSCARS awards ceremony to recognise the outstanding efforts of local volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations as part of North Lanarkshire’s festivities to mark the European Year of Volunteering 2011. The VOSCARS will take place on the evening of Thursday 3 November 2011 at the newly opened Motherwell Theatre (Civic Centre). Awards will be made on the night in twelve categories to reward volunteers, volunteer-engaging organisations, and volunteer teams who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteering or supporting volunteering in the local area during and prior to the last twelve months.
Nominations for the twelve award categories are now open, with a closing date of Friday 30 September 2011. There is no limit to the number of nominations that an individual or organisation can make. This is your opportunity to gain some much-deserved recognition for hard-working volunteers or organisations. Award winners will be selected by an esteemed independent judging panel, with all category finalists being invited to the VOSCARS ceremony, and all nominated individuals and organisations receiving a European Year of Volunteering 2011 Certificate of Recognition. Award winners will receive a specially-engraved Oscars-style trophy. The nomination categories are as follows:
The VOSCARS is being supported by sponsorship from a number of local companies, including Lanarkshire Supercounty, McTear Contracts Ltd, McDonalds, Airdrie Savings Bank, Strathclyde Police, United Taxi Wishaw Ltd, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Scotshield, Motherwell & Cumbernauld Colleges, and VANL. A big thanks goes to all the companies that have committed sponsorship and resources. Real Radio's popular drive time DJ Steve McKenna will be the MC on the evening. The event will climax a string of highly successful events organised to mark the European Year of Volunteering locally, including a Voluntary Sector Conference, a special Volunteers’ Fair, a Volunteer Speed-Matching event, a photography competition, and a Volunteering in Sport event.
Every year, volunteering is becoming more and more important in North Lanarkshire in terms of social, cultural, and economic impact. VANL hopes that the VOSCARS will help raise the profile of local volunteering and inspire more people to give their time and be recognised for their efforts. Volunteering makes a huge difference to the lives of many people in North Lanarkshire in terms of employability, confidence, skills development, improving health and obtaining qualifications.
