Message from Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire's CEO, Maddy Halliday

Hello community and voluntary sector colleagues

I hope you are managing in these strange and difficult times.  I appreciate there are many and varied challenges and uncertainties for our sector as we move from the initial crisis stage of COVID 19 pandemic to the early stages of recovery – albeit with the risk of further outbreaks and even a second wave.

VANL issued an important survey to our sector in June-July to identify the challenges our sector is experiencing and the support it will need to recover and renew.  We sent the survey out by email to all groups for which we had an email address – about 800.  We also made follow up phone calls to encourage as many groups as possible to complete the survey. 145 groups responded – which was lower than we had hoped. However, we appreciate that some organisations have staff on furlough and have had to close or reduce their operations, whilst others are extremely busy providing support to local people.  We will share results of the survey in our next enews and provide a further update on the support that VANL, council and NHS colleagues can provide moving forward.

VANL will now shift its focus to recovery and renewal support.  Our enews will be fortnightly and will have a wider focus than COVID 19 response. Watch this space!

Take good care.

Maddy Halliday
