We've seen an unfortunate rise in the number of scams in recent weeks. Here are some examples of what to look out for.
Advice from Trading Standards
There have been reports of inflated prices for essential items and the sale of unsafe goods since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. See North Lanarkshire Council's website for more information.
Here's an example of an email that was received by a member of staff from a compromised email account at another organisation. The links in these scams can include files such as Cryptocurrency miners and Ransomware that will be downloaded and executed on Windows-based devices.
If your spam filter catches the email, then it's almost certainly a scam. One way to check is to let your mouse pointer hover over the link, the address of the link will be shown in the bottom left corner just above the Start button, as we can see here, the address points to a spoof .xyz domain.
