Finance and Compliance

This service aims to support organisations to comply with regulatory and financial requirements and to ensure sound financial governance within their organisation.

VANL staff work closely with charities and voluntary and community organisations across North Lanarkshire on an ongoing basis:

  • to support boards/committees and staff to improve financial governance within their organisation
  • to raise awareness of charity and company accounting and regulatory requirements through direct support, information workshops, regular financial information bulletins, training, and newsletter items
  • to carry out financial health checks and systems audits to identify problem areas and develop a realistic action plan to deal with the issues identified
  • to make sure that the financial and accounting systems are fit for purpose, robust and user-friendly
  • to carry out independent examinations for smaller voluntary organisations and charities, subject to capacity
  • to signpost larger organisations to appropriate financial professionals
  • to provide support to ensure that voluntary organisations funded by North Lanarkshire Council are complying with the financial conditions laid out in the funding agreement with the Council
  • to provide tailored training and one-to-one support on:
  • financial governance for committees, staff & volunteers
  • basic book-keeping and setting up accounting systems, both manual and computerised
