Helping voluntary sector employers to be good employers.
If your organisation employs staff, or is about to get funding to do so, you will want to ensure that you are acting as a good employer by complying with employment law and adopting fair employment practices.
Employment law has been changing rapidly over the past few years and the pace is unlikely to slow down over the coming years.
The costs of getting things wrong are rising too. Awards for discrimination, for example, have no limit and have run to hundreds of thousands of pounds.
As an employer you have a responsibility to ensure that you keep up-to-date with changes in the law, and that you are fully aware of your employees’ rights and your responsibilities.
The law is, however, only a starting point. A good employer will have a range of policies and procedures in place that provide a framework for getting the work done while treating employees in a fair and consistent manner.
When it comes to employing staff, VANL can offer member organisations advice, guidance, support and training in the following areas:
- Recruitment and selection
- Terms and conditions of employment
- HR policies and procedures
