Maddy Halliday Retirement – VANL

The Chief Executive of Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire (VANL) will retire in June. Maddy
Halliday has led the organisation for the past five and a half years, capping off a long and
illustrious career in the Community and Voluntary sector.

Ryan Currie, Interim Chair of VANL, said the board are deeply grateful for her service.
“Maddy has steered VANL through a period of change and uncertainty the likes of which the
sector has never seen. She leaves the organisation in a stronger position, both financially
and in terms of governance than she found it. On behalf of all the staff and trustees of
VANL, we want to publicly thank Maddy for her service and offer warm wishes to her and
her family for her retirement.”

Maddy completes her time in the sector with VANL having successfully served as founding
CEO of The Life Changes Trust, and before that as founding director for Scotland of the
Stroke Association.

Maddy Halliday, VANL’s outgoing CEO said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my five and half
years as CEO for VANL. It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with trustees to
support sound governance of VANL and with staff to deliver capacity-building support to the
community and voluntary sector and for volunteering. It has also been very fulfilling to be
able to work with VANL staff and colleagues in our sector and public sector to jointly
develop and deliver our exciting North Lanarkshire Community Solutions programme and
support community planning. I wish VANL and colleagues in North Lanarkshire every future
success.”

Margaret Gibb will take over as interim chief executive in May, and recruitment is now live
for the permanent CEO role, with an upcoming deadline of 29th March. Ryan commented
“this an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior leader in the sector to play an
influential role at the beating heart of the community and voluntary sector in North
Lanarkshire.”

If any qualified candidates wish to apply for the permanent CEO role, the job advert and job
description are available on VANL’s goodmoves recruitment page
with CVs and cover
letters to be sent to ryan.young@vanl.co.uk.
